On June 9, 2025 the much anticipated 25th BET Awards took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards took place in celebration of achievements in entertainment and music, sports, movies and television. This year the awards were hosted by actor comedian Kevin Hart for the second time.
BET Awards Nominations
The nomination list this year was hefty and well-deserved with some acts bringing in multiple nominations. Leading this year’s BET Awards nominations was Kendrick Lamar with 10 nominations, followed by Drake, Doechii, Future and GloRilla, each with six nominations. Metro Boomin with five nominations, while SZA and The Weeknd both received four.
2025 BET Awards Winners
Kendrick Lamar took home four major awards, including Album of the Year for “GNX”,
Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year for “Not like Us” and Best Collaboration
alongside SZA for their track “Luther”. Kendrick, in addition, shared the Video Director of the
Year Award with Dave Free.
The past year has been on eo fmany highs for Doechii and this years BET Awards were no different. The rising rapper continued her rise in the genre as she took home Best Female Hip Hop Artist. Displaying her incredible artistry, SZA snagged the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist title for her continued successes as a brilliant songstress in the genre. Chris brown won Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, while Future and Metro Boomin received Best Group.
Summer Walker won the BET Her Award for her song “Heart of a Woman”. This award
shines recognition on empowering content created by black women in music television
and film. The wins kept coming in as GloRilla, Kirk Franklin and Maverick City Music received
the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/ Inspirational Award for their collaboration titled “Rain Down on
Me”.
In the film and television categories, the captivating biopic “Luther: Never Too Much” was
awarded Best Movie. This was followed by a huge win by Cynthia Erivo for Best Actress after her thrilling year and display as Elphaba in last year’s Wicked. A well-awaited success for the night was Denzel Washington, who won Best Actor to add on to his numerous accolades.
Another exciting moment was Blue Ivy receiving the Young Stars Award in recognition of her early start and participation in the entertainment industry. From the sports front, Angel Reese was awarded Sportswoman of the Year for her consistent performance for the Chicago Sky in the WNBA. Jalen Hurts
lifted the Sportsman of the Year trophy to commemorate his performance for the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL.
Incredible Performances
A breath-taking lineup of artists performed at the show, including Teyana Taylor, Playboi Carti, GloRilla, and Leon Thomas, to name just a few of the exciting performers. These performances were great additions to a special night that celebrated the continued successes, achievements and talents of black artists, actors and sportspeople.
