This Friday, 27 June, KATSEYE released their second EP ‘Beautiful Chaos‘ almost a year after the release of their first ever EP, ‘Soft is Strong’ (SIS). The Los Angeles based group consists of six members: Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia and Yoonchae. The “global girl group” is made up of members from Philippines, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United States. This release likely marks a big moment in their careers.
About Beautiful Chaos EP
Prior to the release of this EP, the group released ‘Gnarly’ as well as ‘Gabriela’, a Latin-pop song where the members got to showcase their vocals and a more soft side in comparison to the high tempo and excitedness of ‘Gnarly’. This contrast could be a sign of the diversity people can expect from their new EP.
“Beautiful Chaos” is said to be a game-changer in the music industry, exploring complex themes of modern girlhood and the blurring lines between the real and digital world. The EP will consist of five tracks, including “Gnarly”, Gabriella, Game Boy, Mean Girls, and M.I.A.
Some standouts on the Ep include Mean Girls and Game Boy. Mean Girls is a dance pop song on a Jersey beat, with sultry vocals. The girls sing a ‘kill them with kindness’ anthem where they express their dislike for the mean nature of the internet, but they maintain their kindness and wish blessings on girls everywhere… even the mean ones. This project feels fresh and fun, showing all the different sides of KATSEYE.
The group says, “We want KATSEYE to be timeless and to have a lasting influence. Not just for now, we want forever”. The EP’s theme “Beautiful Chaos”, represents cultivating connection, up-close and afar, in a world that moves too fast, and they showed all this and more.
Group History
KATSEYE was formed through a training program by HYBE x Geffen (a label of huge stars from BTS to Ariana Grande). Their training process was shown in a Netflix reality TV show titled ‘Dream Academy; where people could see the process of the training before the final members were chosen to debut in the group. Before the show, contestants trained for a year in Los Angeles, California, using the Korean Idol trainee system. The group officially debuted in June 2024, with the single “Debut”. They released their first EP SIS (Soft Is Strong) later that year. In April 2025, earning them their first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, they released a hyper-pop song called ‘Gnarly’ which was met with mixed responses, but it marked one of the biggest moments of their career.
